This Week In Pygmieland...

There are some amazing shows this week... here's where they are and a little bit about the venues!!

Tonight ( Tuesday ) September 29th, the band will travel to Tallahassee, FL for a wild night of rock n' roll. Last time the band was there, I was wondering why they would want to have the Pygmies play on a Tuesday night. That is not normally the night for a bar to be busy. Apparently, that rule doesn't apply to the Tallahassee students. It was a wild night, and by the end of the third song, they already had two girls on stage making out. This place is a lot of fun, it's located in the heart of Tallahassee's own Florida State University.

Thursday the band travels to Rome, GA. They will play at McCrobie's downtown Rome. It's an awesome place! They also serve GREAT food, so make sure to get to the bar early!! It's is 18 and up at this bar. The cover charge is 10$, but only 8$ if you're over 21, hope to see you there!!!!

Friday the band will be heading to Athens, GA to rock out at the ATO house frat. University of Georgia has been Pygmie deprived. This is there only show in Athens, so you don't want to miss it!!!!

Saturday, the band is going to come back to their old stomping grounds... the Iron House Cafe in Hoover, AL. This place is a great place to party! It is one of the most popular places to be on a Saturday night in Birmingham, and THE most popular since the Pygmies will be there! This bar has great food. I always get to the bar early to eat! I would recommend ANYTHING on their menu! The show starts around 10:00 p.m. so get there early to get a good spot up front! It's 21 and up only with a 10$ cover charge.

See you this weekend!

3 shows, 3 states, lots to talk about!

Alright, lets get crackin!

Thursday, I started heading towards Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I left about 8 a.m. and drove to Betsy's house. We decided to ride together, six and a half hours is a long trip. We arrived at the bar around 5 or so. I parked the car, stumbled out ( my legs were sore from the drive) and went to the side of the old building where Christeen was sitting. Moments later, the bar employees opened the back door and the guys proceeded to load all instruments and equipment off the truck and into the dark bar. They didn't put up any lights this show, which made for a quick load in. After the load in we all headed to the hotel and checked in. I then called Angel, who had been MIA during set up. He informed me he had the flu and was instructed to get to the bar right before show time. Betsy and I freshened up, put on our heels, and headed back up to the bar to watch the battle of the bands that were going on prior to the Pygmies show. When we pulled up Dep and Kristen met up with us and we all walked in together. I was surprised to see Angel at the bar already and, although he was doped up on antibiotics and cough medicine, he looked fine. He ordered me a drink and we discussed the "rockin" band's that were performing in the background behind us. Angel bought me a few more drinks. I think his intentions were to make me see double, then there would've been at least 40 people in the place. The band started and Betsy and I stood up front... we were the only ones. Towards the end of the show we sat down at a table close to the stage so I could get some good camera footage of the guys. After the show Cameron went home so Betsy, Christeen and I headed to IHop where we enjoyed some football shaped pancakes and french fries. Lights were out about 5 a.m. ugh!

Friday, I woke up, showered, and Betsy and I headed back towards her house. I was on the way to Columbus, GA for another night of rock. I was running really late because I had forgotten about the time change! Ahh! I drove straight to the bar, making it there just before the guys took the stage. This place was one of the most unique places I have ever seen the Pygmies play! You can see by the pictures how unusual the bar was! Cam, Dep, and Angel played half the show down stairs while Chris stayed stranded with the drums on the balcony of the second story. There were SOOO many people, it was a lot of fun! Unfortunately, when you have to load in and out of a second story building, set up and tear down are aggravating! Nevertheless, the band tore down the stage and headed towards the hotel. Cameron decided, once again, not to eat breakfast. Christeen and I found a Waffle House, where conversation was limited because Christeen had his eyes glued to his new iphone. I went back to the hotel, showered and then went to lye down in one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! That hotel was amazing! check out was noon, and it was 5:30 a.m., ewww!

Saturday, I woke up around 11 so I could take another shower and then checked out t noon. It was only 11 o'clock in Auburn, which was my destination. I wasn't really sure what to do with my free time. While driving towards Alabama, Jason called me to have lunch with him and his girl. It was then I realized Cam was driving by himself so I invited him to come eat lunch with us at the Ruby Tuesday's in Auburn. We discussed the history the Pygmies had with the Supper Club, other bands that were doing well and other band-like stuff. After an awesome lunch we headed to the hotel to get our rooms. It was now time for me to do some work. I jumped on my netbook and uploaded some pictures from the shows, edited them, and then organized them for the websites. I also sent out emails for the night's show at the war eagle Supper Club. I got a call from Christeen, who needed his tool bag, which was in my car. So I drove to the bar to finish organizing the pictures. I then ran a few errands for Chris and watched the guys set up a new light show. Again, they ran a little late. Christeen was hungry, so I offered to drive to Krystal's to get him some food. I was being too nice. I had forgotten about the game, it had just ended. I sat in Krystal's drive-thru for almost 45 minutes! After that, I drove back to the bar, picked up Pete and Christeen, and drove them to the hotel so they could relax for a few minutes. the show started around midnight. It was an absolute blast! So many fans! And the lights, though they took a lot of work, looked amazing! The show went over so well, after the signature KISS song the guys play at the very last, the fans screamed ""ONE MORE SONG! ONE MORE SONG!" Cam gave the fans exactly what they wanted! Load out was long, and hard... as the sun was rising higher into the sky, Pete shut the truck and we pulled away from, yet another, amazing rock and roll weekend with lots and lots of memories!

until next weekend!

Another Weekend of Unchaperoned Rock N' Roll

The Pygmies are at it again. Another weekend of rock n' roll!

Thursday, September 24th, the band heads back to Murfreesboro, TN. They're back at Club 527 Mainstreet!! 527 Mainstreet" is Murfreesboro's oldest live music venue known for its high ceilings and over the top lighting and sound. Name acts such as The Allman Brothers, Dolly Parton, Widespread Panic, Vanilla Ice, Blue Oyster Cult, Reel Big Fish, Drive-By-Truckers and The Black Crowes helped put Main Street and the local music scene on the map. They are 18 and up with select all ages shows, they have three full service bars, full kitchen, free pool, beer pong and more!! Visit the Penthouse @ 527 upstairs featuring a dance club atmosphere! The staff at 527 Mainstreet is dedicated 100% to making your visit kick ass. The loudest peace of Murfreesboro's past is here to rock you!!! ...so grab your friends and come party with the Pygmies! It's an $8.00 cover!!

Friday, September 25th, the band travels down to Columbus, GA to go to Club H2O. This relatively new Columbus dance club is modern, clean, has a big dance space, and is filled with cool lights and funny vortices that can lead an enebriated person to stare with uninterrupted enthusiasm. Cover charge is $10, drinks are about $3 for Domestic and $5 or more for import. The clientele seemed to be a fun and easy-going crowd full of people not afraid to get in the center stage and show some moves. This is a rock show you DON'T want to miss!!!

Saturday, September 26th, the band is playing at my FAVORITE club, the War Eagle Supper Club in Auburn, AL. This place is amazing! The Pygmies have been playing here for over 15 years! Every die-hard Pygmie fan hasn't seen a good Pygmie show until they have been to the Supper Club. Come out early to get a good spot, this place is always packed. It was voted top 100 college bars from Playboy Magazine! It's a 21 and up bar. After the show, head over to the Waffle House that is located right next door! I am sure the Pygmies will be there too :)

I will be at all the shows this weekend, so be ready for some GREAT footage!

See you at the shows!

A weekend of rock like no other...

This last weekend was quite exciting... here's what happened...

Thursday I drove to Montgomery to see the Pygmies. I was running a little late, so I headed straight to the hotel to check in. I stuck my stuff in the hotel room, which was really nice, then headed to Rock Bottom's for a night out with my boys! ! I met up with KimberLee, the Prattville girl, to celebrate her last Pygmie show in Alabama. Dep and Angel were already at the bar playing darts. I tried to stay away, the thought of Angel and Dep throwing sharp objects makes me nervous. Around 10 o'clock the band arrived and they started about 10:30. A great crowd showed! Several people were celebrating their birthday. Cam picked a young lady, named Wendy, as his new buddy to give alcohol. She accepted this friendship and by the end of the show she was watching the audience with her eyes closed more than watching the band. The point is, she had fun, and that's what the Pygmies are all about! The night ended with a trip with Christeen to the Waffle House, where we played Tetris and prank phone called friends. I headed to bed about 5 a.m. check out was noon, yuck.
Friday ended up being a more interesting day than I had expected. I woke up at 10:30, I didn't have to check out of the hotel till noon, but i wanted to head over to Best Buy to get the NEW netbook I have been wanting. After I showered, packed my bags, and loaded my car I went back into the hotel to make sure I had everything. I came across Angel in the hallway, he asked if I wanted to eat lunch at Shogun's next to the hotel, so we headed that way. During our intimate lunch, intimate because we were the only ones in the place, Angel and I discussed the shows for the next couple days. Since we were going to be driving the same direction, we decided to carpool together. We went to Best Buy and bought my netbook, then headed to Buford, GA to 37 Main Rock Cafe. This place was new for the Pygmies. The bar was great! Really neat pictures and atmosphere! The guys ran late that day. They literally RAN to the van and got to the hotel quick to change, they had less than an hour to get ready. Because of this, I just stayed at the bar with Angel and watched as the bar filled with eager fans. The show started at 10. During the show, Christeen whispered to Cam that a camera man wanted to know if there was any way they could turn the lights down... they were too bright. Cam, of coarse, laughed and continued to play. After the show I headed back with Angel and Dep to the hotel, I had to get my own anyways. Waffle House was NOT on the menu for the night, instead Cam, Brad, Gina, Joany, Teen and I headed to Huddle House for reflection on the night's events. Back at the hotel, I was so tired I fell asleep while talking with Christeen... oops, lol. Ugh, lights out at 5 a.m. again!

Saturday I woke up, took a nice shower, and headed out of the hotel. It was raining, ewww! All of us headed to the Golden Corrall for some good eats. It was still raining out when we left, so I pulled the car up to the front of the restaurant for Angel... I'd hate for the rain to ruin his hairdo! It also rained the entire drive to South Carolina! Unfortunately, my brand new windshield wiper blades were acting up, so it made it really hard to drive down the interstate! We headed straight to the frat house. I have seen many, many frat houses... but these were the smallest I have ever seen! They were probably under 3,000 sq. ft.! The guys set up the stage on the back deck and made sure they had their tarps ready in case it rained during the show. They ran behind again. Cam and I headed to the hotel to get the rooms. The Days Inn of Spartanburg is quite disgusting! The pool looked more like a pond... an algae infested pond! While the guys changed for the rock n' roll show, Cam sent me on a mission to find a new fog machine. Then I headed back to the frat house. The guys had an early show, they started at 9. I was surprised that such a small school knew how to party THAT much, I was truly impressed with their enthusiasm! Cam even gave an encore of Body Count because the fans were cheering "One more song! One more song!" After the show the guys packed it all up, while Dep kept saying "Have you heard? The bird's the word!" ( from Family Guy). Chris, Christeen, and Dep headed home after the show, so Waffle House consisted of Brad, Cam, and I. I headed to bed, I had a long drive ahead of me in the morning.

Sunday morning I drove home with Angel. We talked about the shows, and some of the crazy things we had seen throughout the weekend. We stopped in LaGrange, GA for gas. I sat in the car while Angel walked in to use the restroom. He took FOREVER and then came out with an arm full of random purchases. He bought two Ghetto Alabama hats, a fleece NY mets throw, a palm tree bag, and pantyhose. I think being on the road has gotten to him, lol. I got home about 6:30 pm, and headed to bed!

All in all, a great weekend. There were MANY pictures and videos, so make sure to look for them on the websites and youtube!

Until Next time!

The Velcro Pygmies are at it again... "Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready to go?"

Thursday, September 17th, the band will be at Rock Bottom's in Montgomery, AL. I really have enjoyed the Pygmies playing there! You have GOT to come early and get some food! They serve everything from Oysters to Cheese Burgers! They even have steaks! What could be better than good food then a Pygmie show? How about Pygmies AND good food! That's right, the kitchen is open ALL night and you can order right from the front of the stage... just ask Johnny Depp! The band usually starts about 10:30 here and plays till 2 am. This is a non-smoking bar.

Friday, September 18th, the band is playing at 37 Main in Buford, GA. This place looks really neat! I have never been here before, but I have researched the website, and you should too! www.37main.com They serve food at this bar too. Another great place the Pygmies get to call home for the night! I cannot wait to rock out in this place!

Saturday, September 19th, the band is rocking out in Spartenburg, SC. There are some SAE fraternity boys that are anticipating a rock n' roll show, and Cam does NOT want to let them down!

I may, or may not, be attending the show on Saturday... I'll try to see what I can do ;)

I hope to see and meet LOTS & LOTS of Pygmie fans this week! See you at the shows!

This week in RoCk...

The Velcro Pygmies are playing 3 shows, in 3 different states this weekend... odds are you're gonna be close to one of them!

First stop is Carrollton, GA at The Den. This used to be called Off Campus Pub. Great bar, great atmosphere! You definitely DON'T want to miss this show! They have great food too. Get there early, grab a bite to eat and anticipate the calories melting away as you rock hard with the Pygmies that night.

Friday, the Pygmies are traveling to Rhythm & Brews in Tuscaloosa, AL for an AWESOME show! I love the stage at this place! It's low and not very deep, so the guys are really IN YOUR FACE! The doors open at 5 pm. It IS 21 and up. While you're there try one of their signature smoking drinks, such as the Electric Bullfrog! It's AWESOME! Word to the wise, this place gets crowded and VERY HOT, I would definitely wear something cool in this bar and always keep the alcohol coming!

Saturday the band heads north to Evansville, IN. The are playing at Woody's, a great place to party! They even have a pool room, darts and a d.j., not that you're gonna be listening to him OVER the Pygmies! The are known to be the HARDEST bar in town. You'll have to attend to find out why ;)

I will NOT be at ANY of the shows this weekend. So, if you have pictures, videos, or a story about something that happened, please feel free to comment or email me at kate@velcropygmies.com

4 Nights With the Pygmies... yeah, a lot to be said!

The Pygmies played four shows this Labor Day weekend. And there are a lot of stories to be told!

The first show was on Thursday night in Hattiesburg, MS. As I was driving to the show I imagined what this bar, called Side Street, might look like...my imagination was being too kind. The bar was set off from the street, hence the name SIDE STREET. I am glad I saw the PENSKE truck, or I would've missed it, and I have GPS! It reminded me of an old tavern. I walked in, said hi to the guys (who were still setting up and enjoying some lukewarm pizza) and looked around at the NEW bar the Pygmies had decided to rock out. Nothing really exciting about this bar. lol. The guys went to change and I waited patiently at the bar, anticipating the night's over-the-top rock n' roll, we like to call the Velcro Pygmies. As throngs of Pygmie fans flooded Side Street (not really... only maybe about 20 people) the Pygmies made their way to the stage to start rocking the 20 people's faces off. I decided to "push" my way through the large crowd (not really) and stand in front of DEP... I stood alone. The show was great, as usual. Cameron knows how to sell the show whether there are 10 people or 10,000. Cam even got a lucky birthday boy, named Bob, to have a lap dance from some of the ladies in the crowd, though I don't know if you can call 20 people a CROWD. Cam bought him shots all night long, till they finally had his friends carry him out of the bar, we were now down to about 12 people. Regrettably, the ABC board came through and stopped the alcohol sales due to an under age drinker. this left us with about 8 fans. They ended around 1:30 and proceeded to tear down the AWESOME light show they used for the intimate "crowd" of fans. I noticed throughout the night the people in the bar talking to each other and walking about, as if the Pygmies were a jukebox or something. Apparently, Hattiesburg, MS doesn't understand this type of rock n' roll. The night ended with a trip to the Waffle House. Where Teen, Brad and I listened to bad Waffle House tunes, sung by Cam himself. As if the night couldn't get any worse, the hotel had bugs... everywhere! On a good note ( I'd hate to say everything went bad that night) Cameron told me the US Army has extended an invitation to The Pygmies to travel to bases in the Middle East bringing their brand of raunchy rock to the service men and women. Details are being worked out and the shows will be scheduled in 2010!

I woke up Friday, refreshed and ready for a GOOD night of rock n' roll at Captn Fun Beach Club in Pensacola, FL. This place is never a let down! I got there about 6:30 or so, and the guys were just pulling the equipment off the truck. I sat and enjoyed a bushwhacker and talked with Emily, Eddins girlfriend. After they set up the show, they went back to their hotel to change and relax while I ate with some fellow PYGHEADS at the local Hooters. Surprisingly, I got a call from Angel during dinner asking me to pick him up from the hotel so we can hang out before the show. He gave me the address and I headed towards the hotel. I thought my GPS wasn't working because it said the hotel was 18 minutes away! YIKES! Some would say, I was too nice to drive and pick up Angel, lol. The show was amazing, like always. Normally the Pygmies play only one set, straight through the night, but that night they stopped the show for a "Naughty School Girl Contest" it was here we met Principal Wayne... what a character! Cam picked him out of the audience to help with a task. He asked the young ladies " If you were sent to the Principals office for doing something wrong, what would you do to try to get out of the punishment?" One of the young ladies replied with " I'd let him spank me with his belt" and so, Principal Wayne, who wasn't a principal at all, took off him belt and "punished" her. A definitely MEMORABLE Pygmie experience. They finished the show with a bang and began the "fun" project of tearing down another night of rock n' roll. We then traveled to the local Whataburger for a reflection on the night's festivities. Thank God they do not have a Waffle House jukebox there! The hotel had a very comfortable bed and I enjoyed the couple hours of sleep I did have!

Saturday morning I got up, checked my 23 text messages and 2 voice mails and headed home to shower for the Starkville, MS show. The entire ride home, which is only 45 minutes away, I contemplated not coming to the show that night. Not because of the Pygmies, Starkville, or that it was at a fraternity, but because I more-or-less slept the drive to my house. After getting home I decided, what the heck, it's only sleep, and you only live once! So I headed out of the house bound for Mississippi State territory. As my drive got longer, my foot got heavier and I found myself driving 76 mph in a 55 mph zone, or should I say, the cops found me. I pulled over and talked to the cops about the undercarriage of my car having a loose plate, so I drove faster to avoid it hitting the ground... which was NOT a lie! He had me get out of the car, took my license, and went forward with his questioning. As we looked at the plate that was hanging from my car, he asked me about the Pygmies ( I was wearing a Pygmie shirt). He had seen them years ago and wanted to know there tour dates. I was happy to tell him, especially if it'd get me out of a ticket. He asked where I was off to so quickly and I let him know I was going to see the band. He then looked down at his clip board and started to write. I stood there thinking, well, here it is, my speeding ticket over $200. It was then he asked, "It's www.velcropygmies.com, right?" He let me off with a warning! haha. It just goes to show it pays off to have friends in LOW places too ;) The show went well that night, which was a surprise considering we were in Mississippi! It was fun to attend a show where 90% of the audience had never seen the band. It made everything raunchy Cam said even better! Unfortunately, the band couldn't find a hotel in the area because MSU had a home game. We drove 2 hours from Starkville, to Quittman, MS. Angel road with me to keep me awake, that strip of highway is the worst drive ever if you are tired! Western Motel was our home for the night, and it had uncomfortable beds, hard pillows and tiny showers, though lack of sleep made it feel like a 5 star hotel.

I woke up bright and early the next afternoon to a knock on my hotel room door. It was Teen. He was standing outside smok
ing a cigarette in his boxers. It was raining really hard but I made it home in one piece so I could get ready for another night of unchaperoned rock n' roll at Live Bait II in Orange Beach, AL. The guys were set up and back at the band house by 9 o'clock and I waited at the bar and talked with Pygheads who were waiting anxiously for the band to start. by 10:30 the band had begun their rock n' roll show that brought a record setting attendance of fans for the year at Live Bait II! Complete with boob flashing t-shirt sales, and free beer and shots right off the stage! After the show many Pygheads, Cam, Teen, Brad and I headed to Waffle House to socialize. We were all really pumped about how well the night went! Later I found myself back at the band house sleeping off the headache I had accumulated throughout the weekend. Mostly caused by lack of sleep!

There you have it, another amazing, story-filled, weekend of rock! I hope you enjoyed the shows as much as the Pygmies and I did, and we hope to see you this week!

Pygmies BEACH Shows this week!

This week's Velcro Pygmies shows are gonna be memorable! I can't wait, and I know YOU can't either, so here's the venues, and a little bit of information about the places the Pygmies plan on Rocking Out!

-Wednesday's show at Zen has been canceled

Thursday, September 3rd, the Velcro Pygmies are going to be going to Side Street Bar in Hattiesburg, MS. This place is great! The band loves Hattiesburg! The University of Southern Mississippi is ready for the Pygmies! I hope you are too! Bring out all your friends for a night of unchaperoned rock n' roll, sure to keep you dancing on your feet all night long!

Friday, September 4th, is one of my FAVORITE venues the Pygmies ever played. It's Captn Fun Beach Club! They have no cover if you get there before midnight. And why wouldn't you? They have the best bushwackers on the beach! It's also on a boardwalk, so you can enjoy the beach and shops during the day, then head over to the OUTDOOR club at night to rock out with the band! It's amazing! A definite Pygmie favorite! It is 21 and up ONLY! Be ready to rock!

Saturday, September 6th, the Velcro Pygmies are traveling to Starkville, MS. They are playing at the Sig Ep house at Mississippi State University!! I know these boys know how to party, and if we can keep our band out of trouble... they know how to party too ;) Hope to see you there!!!

Sunday, September 7th, another one of my favorite places for the guys to play, Live Bait II, in Orange Beach, AL. This place has history with the Pygmies, and they LOVE to play here! This is the LAST beach show of the year, and the Pygmies plan on making it something to remember... the question is, will you? It's 21 and up here as well!

I hope to see everyone at the shows this week! Everyone should try to road trip to the beach shows, they are the BEST! I got one question left to ask you...

"Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready to go?"
